Learning Support and Resource

Special Needs Education at Deerpark CBS

At Deerpark CBS the teaching staff strive to address students’ individual learning needs. We have several support structures, and special programmes, in place for students who have been granted special teaching hours by the National Council for Special Education. Various teaching methods are employed in order to assist students to fulfil their individual educational goals.

Students entitled to special needs teaching classes take part in small group tuition, in-class support and learning support classes. Mainstream curriculum is modified to cater for students learning within the Junior Certificate, Transition Year, Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate programmes.  Students also gain extra access to assistive technology in order to enhance learning and meet their individual course requirements.

Students are supported by a dedicated team of resource teachers and special needs assistants in a wide range of contexts; in-class, resource centres and in special classes and on school outings.
